Job Posting:

Drama Instructor/Stage Manager – Grande Prairie Boys’ Choir

The Grande Prairie Boys’ Choir is a highly successful, dynamic and caring non-profit organization with approximately 130 boys ages 7-20.  The GPBC is looking for a dynamic individual (possibly two individuals) to fill the role of Drama Instructor and Stage Manager for their sold-out Spring productions.

This person(s) will be responsible for teaching individual, small and large groups of boys drama skills, culminating in a performance.

  • Maintaining good order and discipline among the boys he/she is teaching.
  • Communicating and consulting with the Choral Conductor, Parents, and with the Day to Day Logistic Manager on rehearsal schedules, costumes, set pieces and props for the performance.
  • In addition, this person will work as a member of a team in the shaping of the production and act as Stage Manager, calling all sound, lighting, set and movement cues for our “hybrid” concerts which include both drama AND choral singing.
  • The Drama Instructor and/or Stage Manager work very closely with the Choir Director meeting regularly and collaborating to create visually what the Choir Director wishes to communicate to the audience aurally.

Although training and mentorship will be provided, special consideration will be given to those individuals with Musical Theatre, Drama or Stage Management backgrounds or experience.

Creativity is a must, and a passion for working with children, teenagers and being a member of a team will be strongly considered.  Punctuality and commitment are a requirement.  Organizational skills will be appreciated and prove to be an asset.

Hours:  Rehearsals are consistently Monday evenings, with added rehearsals nearer to the concert.  Attendance at a 2-hour weekly planning and organizational meeting with the choir director is required.  Concerts consist of Christmas shows (normally three performances) and Spring Show (normally two performances) and potentially one or two additional smaller performances.

Remuneration is dependant on experience.

If you have any questions or would like to speak to someone about this position, you may contact the choir director, Jeannie Pernal at: conductorl@gpboyschoir.org or by phoning 780-402-0153.
